Charity Day for Breast Cancer Research
The golf gods have been kind and given us some good weather over the last couple of months and the Worrigee links ladies have taken advantage and managed to get in some good rounds of golf.
We have played two Monthly Medals with July’s medals going to Lyn Loveday in A Grade, Sue Earle in B Grade and Cheryl Bargwanna in C Grade with the putting comp going to Aoauli Carrett. August’s monthly medals were won by A Grade – Lyn Loveday, B Grade- Pat Collier and C Grade-Suzanne Toepfer with Pat Leach taking out the putting competition.
We also played our Foursomes Championships with the pairing of Aoauli Carrett and Pat Collier coming out on top as Gross Champions with a combined score of 186 gross for the 2 rounds. Denise Johnson and Linda Innes managed to put together two winning rounds of 65 & 72 with a combined total of 137 nett to take out the Nett Foursomes Championship for this year.
The course is coming back into good shape with hard work and tender loving care from our amazing greens staff repairing patches of fairway and re-doing some of the bunkers. A big thanks to them though I myself and some other ladies wouldn’t mind the bunkers being out of play a bit longer, it makes the game a lot easier without sand!!
Worrigee Links Womens Golf held their Annual Charity Day on Monday 21st March, 2016 and welcomed a field of 69 players. Drive & Pitch Div. 1 was taken out by Lynn Loveday and Div. 2 by Jan Murdoch. The putting competition was won by Linda Innes.
8th December 2015 was the women’s Christmas party and presentation day. It was decided to play a nine hole hartball event and there were quite a few elves and santas out on the course getting into the Christmas spirit and a good day was had by all.
15th December 2015 was a single stableford event and also our ham day. Winner of the big ham was Robyn Bailey with an impressive 42 stableford points closely followed by Aoauli Carrett with 40 pts. Everyone else received a small ham. Congratulations to all.
That concluded our official events for the year with the ladies just playing a social nine holes over January. Our golfing competition year begins on 2nd February 2016 with our Monthly Medal Competition.
Welcome to the 2015 AGM. I also wish to welcome our new members – Aoauli Carrett, Penny Conlon, Lyn Loveday, Jan Murdoch, Sandra Marshall, and returning after a break away from golf, Robyn Bailey.
This year saw the Championships reduced to 27 holes after the course was flooded and then, when reopened, we were hit with gale-force winds, which forced golf to be called off after 9 holes. This was the first time since the course was opened that we have had to reduce the Championships.

Congratulations go to all worthy winners.
To Sandra, my reliable Vice Captain, who organised the Pennant and Round Robin teams, a huge “thank you”. Our Pennant team had its best year ever, finishing 9th out of 14 teams. Congratulations ladies, on a fabulous result for our very small club. Thank
you to all that played and to Sandra and Cath, who also did the behind-the-scenes work that ensured we arrived at the right places at the right times. It sometimes is a fine juggling job.
Round Robin competition is still ‘a work in progress’, with some good days and some not so good. We always aim to improve and all the girls are working hard to get there.
I extend our thanks to Rob, Pete and the grounds staff, without you we would not have the fantastic course that we play on each week, nor would we have been able to get back on the course so soon after the devastating rains this year.
My personal, biggest, ‘Thank You’ goes to Cath Pank – without your knowledge and skills I definitely would not have been able to do my job. As Cath knows, I still do the majority of my Captain’s paperwork in handwritten form and she then converts it appropriately and forwards it to the necessary respective people.
As this will be my last official duty as Captain, I would like to say it has been a pleasure and an honour to be the Captain of such a fabulous Club over the past 6 years. You are an outstanding group of ladies and you all deserve a medal for putting your faith and trust in me.
To Denise, who will now be running for the post of Captain and, at the end of this AGM, I have faith in the belief that she will be successful, I pass on the knowledge that it will be an amazing experience that brings great self-learning with it, and I believe that you will love it.
See you all on the course and may all you shots be brilliant ones.
Round Robin competition has commenced with four out of six games played and we are currently fifth. Our hosting game was cut back to thirteen holes due to the very heavy rain that started after a few holes had been played, and showed no signs of easing up. The flooding of the Shoalhaven meant no golf for the next week.
A big thank you to the green staff for getting the course back into play so quickly after such a deluge.
Our friendly match with Callala was played on the 22nd September, a great day was had by all. Worrigee won the day and the rematch at Callala will be played in October. The annual event has been named the W.C. Trophy, with a very elegant rose wood toilet seat as the perpetual trophy.
As this is the last sports council meeting before our AGM, I would like to take this time to thank our committee for their commitment and dedication over the past twelve months. Without such commitment our club could not be the successfully run club that it is.
On Sunday 26th July 2015 saw the annual “Jack Elliott” golf day challenge, at Worrigee Links golf course, between the Men’s Golf, Veteran’s Golf, Social Golf and Ladies Golf Sections of the Shoalhaven Ex-servicemen’s Club. A field of 60 players took to the course at 8.00am with a shotgun start, which started rather smoothly until the gale force winds entered the scene. Despite the windy conditions the day was immensely enjoyed by all, particularly the men’s section who took out the converted trophy. Many thanks go to our sponsors who included Shoalhaven Ethanol Fuel, Nowra Putt Putt, Coles Nowra, Golf Pro Shop at Worrigee Links, Southern Water Company, Shoalhaven Patios, Johnson Proctor Surveyors and lastly to East Nowra Bakery who supplied the delicious bread rolls. A BIG thank you to all who participated for without the competitors there would be no competition. Thanks, also, go to the Ladies committee who worked tireless on the day to host such a successful event – well done ladies.
The results of the day are listed below:
Just as a reminder – Next year’s event will be hosted by the Veterans Golf Club.
