We commenced our season on 3rd March with the Wray Owen Monthly Medal. The first medal winner for the year saw A. Carrett win the ‘A’ Grade. Congratulations to Aouli, as it is the first medal she has won, as she is a new member. The ‘B’ Grade medal went to L. Sikora, and the ‘C’ Grade medal was won by S. Mitchell.
We have 3 new members in the new year – Robyn Bailey, Penny Conlon and Aouli Carrett. Welcome ladies, I know you will enjoy your golf at such a wonderful and happy club.
This year, because of Easter being in early April and school holidays coming straight after, the Committee decided to run the Ladies’ Charity Day on 23rd March. We also changed the day to a Monday (instead of the usual Tuesday), so as not to clash with golf days in other clubs, and so encourage more players to enter. This was a huge success, with a field of 48 players from 9 other clubs in attendance, and it was our best attendance in many years. The weather was perfect and we certainly chose the right day, as the Tuesday was a ‘wash-out’, with rain falling all day.
The winners of the Charity Day event were St Georges Basin players on a countback from Nowra. 3rd place went to a combined Cronulla and Worrigee team.
Shoalhaven Wig Library and the Nowra/Bomaderry ‘Shakers’ (Parkinson’s Disease organisation) were our selected charities this year and we raised $1000.00, which will be shared equally by these two worthy groups. A big ‘thank-you’ goes to Johnson Proctor Surveyors, who sponsored a Hole-In-One prize of $100.00 which did not go off, so they donated the money to the day’s charities. Another donation of $100.00 was also gratefully received from Mr. Bill Chapman in Roma’s memory.
Thanks go from the Ladies to the Vets, Rob, and the Greens Staff for their immense help in making our Charity Day the success that it was.
